Health Systems Strengthening Tools Cited in USAID 2009 Report to Congress

Dec 22 2009

Two innovations from the Health Systems 20/20 project for measuring progress in health systems strengthening are cited in USAID's first Health Systems Report to Congress.

On page nine: "USAID and its partner organizations already have developed a variety of methods for measuring the individual areas of health systems strengthening:

  • The Health Systems Assessment Approach guides a rapid, comprehensive review of the health system’s six functions to inform the development of country and USAID mission health strategies. Health Systems Assessments have been conducted in Benin, Angola, Nigeria, Vietnam, Pakistan, Southern Sudan, and Namibia.
  • The Health Systems Report to Congress compiles key health systems indicators from existing online data sources (e.g., Demographic and Health Surveys, WHO Statistical Information System, World Bank World Development Indicators) to produce data-driven country health systems profiles and analytical tools."
