Yemen

Health Systems 20/20 focuses on strengthening a decentralized health system in five of the most vulnerable and underserved governorates in Yemen. Project activities support the Ministry of Public Health and Population’s (MoPHP) Health Sector Reform Strategy and USAID/Yemen’s strategy to increase the use of reproductive, maternal, and child health services.

USAID/Sana’a and the MoPHP asked that Health Systems 20/20 resume support for two key technical activities in Yemen previously implemented through the Partners for Health Reformplus and Health Systems 20/20 (Yemen PHR) projects: health information system strengthening and routine immunization strengthening. These activities were led in the past by a local team of experts supported by a core group of home office technical advisors and contributed to:

  • Establishment of a national and governorate-level health information database
  • Increased understanding of issues of access and gaps in services, leading to more efficient planning and allocation of resources
  • Increased demand for accurate information
  • Improved data collection on routine immunizations, leading to decreased wastage and improved coverage
  • Activities will build on the foundation laid during the previous USAID-funded projects. Work will focus on the development and refinement of a reliable Reproductive Health Management Information System (RH MIS) that produces accurate and timely data to identify gaps in access to health care and to make evidence-based decisions on investments in priority services and for improved outreach and coverage for routine vaccinations.
